I found it interesting, and irritating, that I found so many crafters online going through the same issues I was when it came to keeping track of where they were in a pattern. Most of my projects are written out on notecards, weather it's one I'm figuring out from scratch or keeping track of rows with a PDF. So I tried to find a better way. This is what I've come up with:
The Cleckbox system is simple. Each PDF comes with these small boxes next to each set of instructions. There will be a single box beside instructions without repeats, and additional boxes for any repeats. This allows you to stop at any time and mark where you are with ease, without having to write down any notes that might get lost - your mark is left on your copy of the pdf so long as it is open. Simply click (or tap, on mobile) the desired box to leave your mark. At this point, I would like to note that this trick only wants to work when the pdf is
opened in a browser or a pdf reader like adobe. With that pitfall in mind, I have also included a
printable (black and white to save on ink) copy of the simplified pattern. I figure for those of you who still enjoy a paper and pen approach, this could make it a little bit easier with the pattern on the page in advance.
I hope this lovely little trick helps you out, and if you'd like to implement it into your own patterns, I'd be happy to help you out. Leave a comment here and I'll get in touch!
